What a fantastic idea. It was great fun to play outdoors, and my 10-month old daughter loved it too.

I was very moved to hear young pianists playing Beethoven and Chopin when I was passing through Liverpool Street station on Tuesday 23 June.
what a brillaint idea this street piano is!
It is particularly appropriate that the Liverpool Street piano was made in Berlin. As you will know in the square outside Liverpool Street there is a statue commemorating the children who escaped from Nazism in the Kindertransport,, arrived in Liverpool Street and began a new life in Britain.
As beautiful sounds emanated from the piano I was reminded how the nations of Central Europe cooperate, study and work togehter in a way that would have been unthinkable in the 1930's.
