Probably our last piano of the tour.. At least we made it to 30! It would be nice to see the one at the stadium (if it’s still there!). We haven’t been sure if we would find a piano when we look since the one at Rookwood was gone.

Had a larger audience than usual for this piano, which was in great shape that Sunday morning, but sounding a little muddy or muffled. The little guys were playing when I came up. They listened politely to me when they had finished, but the fire truck that roared by halfway through my song was a good deal more exciting. Played this one on the first Sunday morning road trip, 8-15-10.

Here is my 6-year-old son Gus playing the piano on the square. Pianos are his favorite thing in the world, and finding pianos just out on the street for anyone to play was a real treat for him!

I grew up in Hyde Park but have lived in and around Pittsburgh, PA, for the past 20 years. On a recent visit, I took my boys to see some of the pianos. Both of my boys have autism, and Gus (age 6) is obsessed with pianos. He LOVES them (in this photo, he is even wearing a shirt with an orange grand piano on it) and really enjoyed visiting the pianos in Hyde Park, Mariemont and Rookwood Pavillion. I wish we had been able to see them all!

Some from our Bible Study group from Trinity United Methodist Church (outside Milford) decided to go to Main Street Cafe in Newtown for lunch after church — then on the Mariemont Square for a few of our favorite songs from church — then, of course, across the street to Graeter’s for ice cream dessert. Fun afternoon. We may try to hit another “Play Me Piano” locations before the gig is over.

I came early in the morning on my day off for a fishing expedition.
The traffic was a bit noisy, and a few joggers were about, but the splish-splash of the fountain gives things a relaxed energy.

The piano was dry, but the bench was wet. It had a plastic cover and a bit of a back rest, which was unique.
The morning dew had dried the piano proper, and it IS a Steinway.

Had better times, but you can just feel the quality of the workings in the action. Seems to have some kind of resonator box on top; I wanted to look inside, but it was shut.

It was nice and early, and folks scurrying about their business, I really enjoyed knowing I could play ad lib and then get to fishing when I was done.

Even wet, I like this piano!

Twelfth stop- Mariemont Square. This was the final stop during this day, five locations total. Imagine my surpise when I realized this old upright was a Steinway! Unfortunately, the sound wasn’t as resonant as I had hoped, but it wasn’t too bad. I played here for well over an hour to a very appreciative crowd. When we arrived, there was one couple on a bench. After I played a couple of pieces, I turned around, and the entire area was filled with people watching and enjoying the music. I love when that happens! Of course, we ate some Graeter’s ice cream to top it off…
